The prophecy of "Into Africa" actually began in Arizona in 1988 within
the spirit of a young Pastor Alvin Smith. Sensing a calling to minister to the people
of Western Africa, Pastor Smith, and wife Renee, journeyed "Into Africa" and set
out for Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa in September 1989. Beginning with fewer
than five faithful, there he founded The Door Christian Fellowship Church and the
first stage of "Into Africa" and over the next decade built a vibrant and
large congregation preaching the simple Gospel of repentance from sin and the need
for salvation.
Pastor Smith also called his congregants to share his vision of ‘church
planting’. Despite the terror of war, military juntas and the frustrations of endemic
corruption, this vision took root. Today, there are over 40 Door Christian Fellowship
Churches in Sierra Leone and 20 healthy congregations in other countries including
Senegal, The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, Liberia, Cameroon. Native Africans pastor all of
these congregations. It’s has now been over 10 years of growth for many of the congregations
of "Into Africa" where multiple building projects have been successfully
completed, and many more are in the ground breaking stage of development. Children
are drinking clean water from newly installed water systems (within the grounds
of the new buildings) for the first time in many of their young lives. With generators
acquired, community infrastructures are now showing modern progress in each nation.
From civic and township public works, to improvements within the private sector
and information technologies, "Into Africa" has provided new jobs, new
opportunities and new hope with change. Each country presents its own set of challenges,
complexities and situations. Pastor Benjamin and Marion Mettle have poured good
work into the church in Ouagdougou, Burkina Faso, and Pastor Augustine and Francis
Twite have constructed a substantial new roof onto the church building in Ruashi
. Pastor Peter and Jennifer Dore have witnessed
the impoverished feed and clothed within the church at Bujumbura, Burundi, and Pastor
Morie and Hannah Saffa have shared in the development of new classes, educating
all ages at Cameroon, West Africa.
The miraculous and continuous story of "Into Africa"
outreach and growth is reflected in the changed lives of the communities,
which now can be made more viable for those in which it provides substance. "Into Africa" has assisted tens of thousands throughout West Africa, beyond the new construction,
developing and germinating practical and favorable conditions of improvement.
