In 1989, under the leadership of Pastor Harold Warner and the support of the Tucson Congregation, Pastor Alvin Smith and family pioneered the work in Freetown, Sierra Leone West Africa. Today there are over 65 churches throughout eleven different nations on the continent of Africa as a result of this investment.
The primary mission of The DCF has always been to take the gospel to the world, as commissioned by Christ. Pastor Smith realized that after the salvation of a man’s soul occurred, if other basic bible principles were not applied, there was a real possibility that the works that started on God’s behalf would begin to dwindle and possibly fail if there wasn't additional intervention.
The vision of Into-Africa is to continue to take the gospel to the world in partnership with the DCF. Our approach is simple; we work in coordination with the DCF mission, then partner with the indigenous people and assist them in building churches as well as providing clean drinking water for the community in which they live. This need for clean water and sanitation was driven home after suffering from boils as well as malaria from the poor living conditions. Pastor Smith worked with a Dr. Veronica Lazurus to develop the medical mission team that is now managed and operated under the direction of Dr. Bob Hamilton. The Light-house medical mission has been instrumental in helping to raise funds to build churches, which are utilized to facilitate medical teams that serve periodically throughout Africa.
The root of Into-Africa can be traced back to the experiences that Pastor Smith fostered while pastoring in Africa and his continuing commitment as the Director of International Churches; this partnership is healthy for us all, and we believe our teamwork will create a harvest in Africa not seen in the past. We see the continued and increased support and commitment for pastors, evangelists and their congregations, through prayer, pledges, contribution and sharing the vision. Pastor Smith is always open to the invitation to preach and share the African story to your congregation. Into-Africa and the Lighthouse Medical Mission are always in need of volunteers who want to help see the vision fulfilled.
